Bald Mountain Retreat is one half hour off of Interstate 91. From the south: Five miles north of St. Johnsbury on Interstate 91, following the signs to Lake Willoughby, take Exit 23 Lyndonville (under the name "East Lyndon" on the map below.) Follow Route 5 north, then 5A north to Lake Willoughby and the tiny town of Westmore. (Directions from Westmore and a more detailed map are below.)
From the north: From Interstate 91 take Exit 26, "Orleans/Route 58." Follow Route 58 east through Orleans to Route 5A. Take 5A south to the town of Westmore. (Or you can find your way down from Newport along Route 5A.) (Directions from Westmore and a more detailed map are below.)
From Boston: Follow Interstate 93 through New Hampshire to St. Johnsbury and Interstate 91 and then follow directions above ("From the south".)
We are between Lake Willoughby/Westmore and the town of East Charleston.
From Westmore (Rt 5A): Between the white church and the white town hall take Hinton Hill Road up and over the mountain. (It doesn't matter which way you go at the fork at the top since both roads, Hinton Hill and Coles, join together again right before Mad Brook Rd.) Then where the road levels out, half way to East Charleston (if you get to the Hudson Road, you've gone too far,) take a right on Mad Brook Road. We are one half mile past the gate at the end of the road.
